Lotus Feet
EcoChic are delighted to be collaborating with Lotus Feet.
Lotus Feet work with a co-operative and a small family business in the Philippines whom they visit twice a year. The visits are over a period of two months and has enabled a close relationship to develop with the producers based on trust and fairness and allows for a free exchange of ideas as well as insuring that the products comply with Fair Trade principles.
The Co-operative that Lotus Feet support is made up of fifty women and was specifically set up to provide sustainable livelihood opportunities for families and communities affected by relocation. The small family business the Lotus Feet support are a husband and wife team, Myta & Armin, who are great designers who have set themselves up in business and employ eight women within their team, concerned to provide ethical working conditions and to provide new skills. Through working with Lotus Feet, their business has grown and they are currently looking for larger premises where they will be able to provide more employment.
Lotus Feet guarantee fair working conditions and pay for all employees involved in making their collections and have assurance that no child labour is employed. In spending the two months with their producers each year, this enables them to view the working practices, advise them on the growth of the business and developing Fair trade practices.
Lotus Feet are also members of “Go Green Philippines” a scheme concerned with Reforestation, Forest Management, a coastal Environmental Program and livelihood Projects for Rural Communities.
